Polynesian Cultural Center on Oahu Hawaii
- The best place to get a real life demonstration of old world Hawaii is at the Polynesian Cultural Center. At the Polynesian Cultural Center you will get to experience first hand the Polynesian Cultures of Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand, Marquesses, Samoa, Tahiti and Tonga. The Polynesian Cultural Center is 42 acres of authentic villages where visitors leisurely conduct a walking tour. Immerse yourself into the daily culture of Polynesia as villagers demonstrate hands-on activities like making cloth from the bark, building homes with no nails, climbing tall trees for coconuts, pound taro roots into poi, and master weaving and woodcarving. Friendly villagers will involve the visitors in the demonstration to make it a hands on cultural exchange. Each of the seven island cultures has a village with demonstrations, and these demonstrations are ongoing throughout the afternoon.
There is also "The Rainbows of Paradise" canoe pageant which is staged on the Polynesian Cultural Center's freshwater lagoon near Samoa and Hawaii village. The Polynesian Cultural Center also has its own IMAX Theater which shows a 40-minute presentations of "Coral Reef Adventure" throughout the day. The Polynesian Cultural Center most famous event is its evening show "Horizons: Where the Sea Meets the Sky." Its the largest show in Hawaii with over 100 Polynesian dancers and musicians. Extravaganza is the best word to describe it!
The Polynesian Cultural Center is located in Laie, on the North Shore of Oahu about 38 miles from Waikiki. The Polynesian Cultural Center is opened Monday thru Saturday, and is closed on Sunday. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted nor sold at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
