Oahu Hawaii Luau
- When you think of the quintessential Hawaiian experience, you think of a Hawaiian Luau. A Hawaiian Luau expresses the sprit of Aloha through food, celebration, and the sharing of culture. Oahu Luaus are offered year around seven days a week, with some Luaus taking Mondays off during the winter time. Luau reservations are important to have. The actual sites of Oahu Luaus are away from the Honolulu-Waikiki area. Most Luaua providers have round-trip charter bus transportation that will take you from Waikiki to the Luau site. There will be a friendly host on the bus that will speak to you and get everyone in the mood to celebrate.
All Luaus will have a ceremonial lifting of the slowly cooked pig from the imu (underground oven), this is the traditional beginning of a Hawaiian Luau. Modern Luau food is a mixture of traditional Hawaiian dishes and continental cuisine. There is unlimited and complimentary soft drinks, coffee, and tea. But alcoholic or nonalcoholic blended tropical beverages are considered special drinks that need beverage coupons. Proper ID is needed for 21 year or older adults to trade a beverage coupons for an alcoholic drinks.
Your Luau will have an emcee who will both entertain you and teach you of Hawaiian and Polynesia culture. You will see ceremonial war dances, hula dances, and amazing Samoan fire-knife dances. There is also more modern Hawaiian love ballads with Hawaiian steel guitar. Luaus are about socializing, so don't be surprised if you find yourself participating, even being on stage.
